About the Campaign
Hello everyone, my name is Tariro Chiripanyanga. I was born on 17 May 1994. I am the last born in a family of 4. When I was 10 years old, I was diagnosed with diabetes, I was still too young to understand what it meant or how it would affect my life but that’s when my life changed forever. Due to diabetes, in 2018, when I was in my second year studying business administration at ZEGU, I was diagnosed with end stage kidney disease. This means my kidneys had stopped functioning and could no longer support my body needs. I had to defer my studies.
After spending time in and out of the hospital, I started dialysis in 2020 which has strained my family financially and emotionally. Since 2020, my life depends on peritoneal dialysis which costs USD 1 750 monthly. I depend on dialysis until I can get money for a transplant which costs an estimated USD30,000 in India.
While I was still trying to deal with dialysis, in 2021, I developed diabetic retinopathy, I lost my eyesight and my life completely stopped. I could not do anything and had to depend on my already strained family for support. I went into depression, but I thank God we managed to raise USD5,000 to have surgery on one eye which gave me back some of my independence. Therefore, I depend on my semi good eye and living in constant fear of completely losing my sight if I don’t raise another USD5,000 for the other eye.
On good days (when I am not so sick), I bake some cakes and with the little money I get I sometimes pay for my transportation to the doctors, I just wish I could do more. I have dreams and I fear they may only remain dreams if I do not raise the money needed for transplant. I hope to finish my degree, establish a career in business management and run a successful cake business. I hope one day my family and friends won’t have to live in constant fear of losing me, and I wish to be like any other normal young lady in her late twenties, worried about her dreams not her life and I wish to start my own family someday.
Therefore, all in all I need:
• USD1,750 monthly for dialysis
• USD5,000 for my eye surgery (vitrectomy)
• USD30,000 for kidney transplant
